Moana Connect - Research, Learning and Community Webinar

Rise+Shine Josiah Mika Foundation

We’re excited to share some highlights from the recent Moana Connect - Research, Learning and Community webinar, marking one year since the release of the pivotal report.

Visit the Moana Connect website.

This event brought together an incredible panel of Māori and Pacific experts, including our very own Rise+Shine Josiah Mika Foundation co-founder and trustee, Dr. Jules.

As a proud māmā of four Māori/Samoan/Dutch sons/clinical psychologist/researcher/philanthropic funder and passionate mokopuna wellbeing advocate, Dr. Jules shared her insights alongside esteemed paediatricians, a social service professional, and experienced youth worker. The discussion was expertly facilitated by the amazing Dame Teuila Percival.

Dr Jules said “The talanoa centered around the pressing challenges and opportunities in advancing the aspirations of Pacific children, especially in light of recent policy changes impacting the health and wellbeing sector. Despite the hurdles, the importance of strategic advocacy and the power of a unified community effort was highlighted”.

“A key takeaway was the importance of continuous and sustained advocacy. This ongoing commitment is crucial to ensuring that the voices and needs of our tamariki are heard and addressed. By maintaining our collective effort, we can drive meaningful change and create a brighter future for all mokopuna in Aotearoa, now and into the future”🌺💪🏽
